Description
This year the Christmas trees in the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg have a special theme: "The 50th anniversary of the 1975 White House Old Fashioned Christmas Tree". In 1975, the United States was gearing up for the Bicentennial and First Lady Betty Ford chose to celebrate American art and cultural heritage through the White House Christmas tree. Colonial Williamsburg employees and volunteer crafters created handmade ornaments that decorated the trees, walls, and halls of the White House and celebrated American folk art. Each Christmas tree in the museum highlights this anniversary through special signage and patterns allowing guests to make their own ornaments at home.
