Colonial Williamsburg Foundation Research Reports reflect the evolution of scholarship since the restoration of Williamsburg began in 1926. Individual reports present the most complete understanding available at the time of their composition but may now be out of date due to the discovery of new evidence and advances in technology.
Researchers may also encounter outmoded or disrespectful terminology or evidence of discriminatory views in these reports. Colonial Williamsburg continues to make this material available for research as part of our commitment to understanding our own history.

Description
This report is the compilation of eight years of research conducted by Nicole Blundell Brown at The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation (c. 2017-2024). Broken into three chapters, the preliminary report shares research findings and historical inferences on Williamsburg Bray School students, competing contemporary ideas about education associated with the school, and insights on the school curriculum. At the beginning of each chapter, there is a section on methodology, an overview of research findings, and a list of further research questions not answered by the report. The end of the report concludes with a fully annotated bibliography.
