Living in a household with other people and doing things around a hearth – cooking, staying warm, sharing stories, doing chores – builds relationships and creates a household community. In the 18th century, a household was a little bit different than how we might think of it today and was made up of the people who lived and worked in the same space but were not necessarily family.
